about us/ english

Come on in – to the main entrance for a coffee or tea, read an exciting book or just have a chat with people – this should create a cozy place to meet, organize and hang out – without consumption obligations and normative constraints. In the mornings, people can use the room and the computer as a flexible workplace, support each other with the stress with offices, turn to the in-house advice centers or take part in self-organized language learning groups. A place for plenary sessions in the evening … everything as barrier-free as possible
In the youth club, young people who are looking for a place to chill out without pressure and pressure can meet or make an appointment. We want to create an atmosphere in which everyone feels seen and respected. In addition to joint activities and separate empowerment spaces, e.g. for refugees and queer and young people, this also includes the self-organization of the place for us. We have many ideas for political education. To make it easier for everyone to take part, we plan translations right from the start. Young refugees in particular should meet here in an uncomplicated way, exchange ideas and find support in difficult life situations. In workshops, reading lessions in the afternoon and joint excursions, topics are addressed according to main interests (such as identity, sexuality, history, migration, digitization …). In the afternoon the room is available to all young people.
Office and consulting rooms are being built in the inner courtyard. There will be initial counseling for refugees, a counseling center on multiple discrimination will be set up, volunteer supporters will be networked and refugees will be encouraged to organize themselves. We want to offer all those who are affected quick and uncomplicated help if it is urgently needed – independently and without the pressure of sanctions. The offer should be as uncomplicated as possible.

We are a manageable group of people who bought the cute, purple-and-white checked house in downtown Greifswald in autumn 2017 in order to take it away from the competitive housing market and to revitalize it as a free space. Since its occupation in 1992, the house has been an alternative youth club with different occupations („Initiative Kapaunenstrasse 20 e.V.“). The city, as the owner, gave notice to the former association and, in response to political pressure, the property was advertised for sale to associations.
We applied with our concept … you know how it turned out; ) With new people and a new concept, we want to let the house bloom again as a thistle in the concrete of the urban desert.
